Retail Supervisor (Full-Time)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is seeking a Full-time Retail Supervisor to support the Retail team. The Retail Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Science Store, including retail inventory management, while leading daily operations to ensure sales goals are met. This team member plays a key role in creating a positive first impression of Frost Science and is an integral part of the museum’s 365-day operation. The position requires a friendly and professional demeanor when greeting guests, providing customer service, promoting retail and promotional items, performing transactions in the point-of-sale system (Heartland Retail), and completing daily operational tasks. The Retail Supervisor is expected to model and promote outstanding customer service at all times.

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must have open availability between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily, with primary availability expected Friday through Sunday. Availability on holidays is required, and occasional late evenings may be required during special events throughout the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and manage retail staff, among which includes all retail locations.
  • Make sure items received accurately and pricing is correct.
  • Ensure products are clean and ready to be displayed. Work on store displays and ensure product is placed on floor in a timely manner.
  • Recruit, Coach, counsel, discipline and train employees.
  • Evaluate self-on-the-job performance, as well as other staff.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure items remain in stock through effective replenishment and organization; support inventory processing and lead assigned inventory areas as needed.
  • Process incoming merchandise and assist with product replenishment and reordering as needed.
  • Ensure promotions are accurate and in tune with company’s standards.
  • Utilize computers to process sales transactions, record sales figures, analyze KPI’s, and create action plans to drive sales.
  • Maintain health and safety measures and store’s cleanliness.
  • Help, drive, motivate, and encourage retail sales staff to achieve sales targets.
  • Handle customer complaints, issues and questions. Promote productivity within the workplace and provide guidance to team in team projects.
  • Assist guests with a variety of transactions, questions, and concerns through a seamless and friendly experience.
  • Represent the museum with the upmost integrity, exemplifying values of the organization and sharing our mission daily.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma (minimum requirement); higher level of education preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Customer service experience in a high-volume environment
  • 1 year of retail supervisory experience.
  • Must be friendly and possess strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully and effectively with guests
  • Must embrace the multicultural differences of our staff and guests
  • Must be able to multitask and handle stressful situations in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency in multiple languages is desirable
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must be a team player who can work under minimal supervision
  • Must show flexibility when asked to perform other tasks as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand for extended periods and move throughout retail areas including the store, loading dock, offsite storage, and other assigned locations. Daily tasks involve walking, standing, stooping, sitting, climbing, and reaching, as well as using hands and fingers to handle merchandise, operate equipment, and use computers and point-of-sale systems. The position regularly requires lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, particularly when using computer systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those as employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The working environment is both the interior and exterior spaces of the museum. Must be able to work for extended periods of time in elements such as sun, rain, heat, wind, etc. Exposure to outdoor activities is often requested.
