SUMMARY:

The AV Manager at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is responsible for overseeing the design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the museum’s audio-visual systems. These systems support public exhibitions, planetarium shows, events, educational programs, and internal operations. The AV Manager will lead a team of technicians, collaborate with multiple departments, and ensure a seamless and high-quality visitor and staff experience.

Reporting to the Vice President of Technology the Audio-Visual Systems Manager is responsible for the setup, administration and routine testing of all elements of the Museum’s audio-visual systems.

This role requires the Audio-Visual Manager to develop and maintain a series of key systems within the Museum and ensure that the exhibits are operating and maintained correctly. The role will also include managing and participating in live event set up and support for internal and external events. There will also be an element of supporting the event rental teams in selling the event space capabilities to potential external clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical support and manage Audio Visual Technicians across all museum sites including but not limited to event, meeting and exhibition spaces.
  • Work closely with the Exhibits, Technology, Education and Facilities teams to ensure AV integration meets all programming and design goals.
  • Establish AV Technician schedules for 7-day support.
  • Develop AV technician job descriptions, interview and hire staff as needed
  • Develop AV technical documentation and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to the wider Museum team, enabling them to deal with low level AV queries before escalating to the AV technician
  • Perform computer data entry (e.g. creation of Purchase Orders via the Museum’s Purchasing System; updates to the Asset Database) as required.
  • Develop and perform regular maintenance checks to all AV systems.
  • Support the Museum’s staff and clients in the use of the installed AV Systems.
  • Assist the events team with the design of the event technology and rig sound, lighting and AV equipment in accordance with the production requirements.
  • Manage, troubleshoot and assist with the installation of temporary traveling exhibit AV installations.
  • Program and operate lighting, sound and show control systems in accordance with production requirements.
  • Monitor freelance crews within event spaces during set up and break down.
  • Be on-call outside of normal working hours during production periods, and in emergency situations.
  • Assist the marketing teams to understand how to market and sell the technology capabilities to potential clients.
  • Undertake any other relevant activities which fall under the general scope of this position as directed by the Vice President of Technology.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Strong, proven experience in designing and supporting a broad scope of audio and visual systems.

· Development and maintenance of Audio-Visual and Digital Interactive equipment and installations including control systems, projectors, LED walls, video conference systems and event equipment.

· Ability to design, configure and troubleshoot wired and wireless microphone systems.

· Crestron, Q-Sys and Medialon, Hog control systems management, troubleshooting and programming a plus.

· Computer hardware and software troubleshooting for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS.

· Customer focused with the ability to deliver a high-quality service to both internal and external customers.

· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

· Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to priorities own work.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.

· Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

· Up-to-date knowledge of lighting systems, control apparatus, equipment and maintenance thereof.

· Planetarium AV Experience a Plus.

· Ability to work as part of an existing team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates or Technical Degree with 4 years of relevant experience.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is normally performed in an interior environment. Some work from time-to-time will be in an exterior environment with exposure to climatic conditions. Schedule will include non-traditional hours, evenings, and weekends.
